![]() This can be caused by anything that disrupts the ignition system. ![]() IGNITION FAULTS If the engine is running normally one minute, but suddenly quits, loss of ignition may be the problem. Be sure to place a container below the fuel filter to catch any leaking fuel and be extremely careful when working with gasoline. If the engine starts right back up after stalling, the likely cause is low fuel volume delivery because of a weak pump.Install the new filter by connecting the fuel lines and inserting it into the bracket. The rpms will drop to 500-800, engine will shake, and either stall out or surge up to 1300 rpms before going. Once the engine is warmed up to near the half mark on the temp gauge in the dash the car will stall or try to stall if idling for one minute to five minutes. and then it will start right up and run until it repeats this same failure, after I’ve driven it. Remove the plastic clips holding the fuel lines to the front and back of the filter, then unscrew the bracket holding it in place. When the engine is cold or cool it will idle normally around 800-1000 rpms. Car mysteriously stalls, then starts 10 minutes later. But randomly the car starts to lurch (imagine rapidly depressing the gas pedal about 5 times in quick succession) then the RPMs drop and it dies. On a few occasions, putting the engine in neutral or park would prevent the stall. The engine will start right back up and may or may not do this at the next stop. It does it on the highway, red lights, pulling out if a gas station, turning, idle. Intermittently and when the engine is at operating temp, and when at a stop, the idle will get rough and the engine sometimes stalls. Fuel filters usually need to be replaced every 40,000 miles or so, but because the filter is the easiest and least expensive problem to address, it’s often a good place to start. The car fires right back up after it stalls. If your vehicle stalls and won’t start again, but then starts without issue after sitting for a few minutes, it may be a clogged fuel filter. Fuel filters tend to get clogged over time, forcing the engine to stall. They often look like cylinders with a nozzle extending from the front and back. Fuel filters are usually located near the back of the vehicle along the fuel line that runs from the gas tank to the engine.
